Good Morning!

It’s time to once again wake the beast from its peaceful slumber. Growl - or these days more appropriately ‘Yeeeehaw!’

I won’t try to play catch-up, far too much has occurred in the last year and a half for that to make sense. Instead I’ll focus on the current bit of insanity: 30 day challenge part deux.

A bit of background: while I was still wet behind my SF ears, Justin and I came up with an idea. For 30 days, we’d go out every night. Preferably to a new bar, and with a goal of meeting new people, we ventured out night after night. Sometimes together, sometimes apart, often to new places, our livers battled through dingy dives, cougar-filled lounges, and fratty sports bars. We drank among bikers and tech geeks, filled our bellies in all-night taquerias, and danced with sweaty hipsters with fine-tuned bed heads and shining aviators. We ended with lighter wallets and a newfound sense of the city.

Enter round two. Armed with experience, we’ve fine-tuned the challenge. Due to Justin’s digression (I had to get a dig in for that somewhere) in the previous challenge, we allow 3 days off. Points for new places and people, with a bonus for getting in with the ‘industry.’ And the last new rule for me: I must diligently document every drink, every dollar, and every bar, starting now, with my attempt at remembering.

  1. Arctic Monkeys at the Warfield.
  2. !!??
  3. Girl Talk at the Fillmore (fucking amazing), followed by a quick drink at the Mission Bar. Then drama drama drama all the way home.
  4. Made the decision to start the 30 day challenge at Sparky’s diner with Justin after a night at Madrone.
  5. Met up with Justin and Kory at Place Pigalle in Hayes Valley. Went to a BBQ at a friend of Kory’s in the Mission. Left and went to Elixer for some beer and darts with a couple lesbians from East Sonoma. Finally ended up with a dirty martini at Wish in SOMA.
  6. Went to the Hotel Utah for some live music and beer. Sat down next to an amazingly trashed girl at the bar. After identifying that the purse on the bar in front of her wasn’t mine, she took a cell phone out of it and used it to call the last person who’d called the phone and tell them the owner had left the purse at the bar. A girl showed up 5 minutes later to claim the purse… and of course she was a friend who’d come to the bar with the trashed girl. Go figure.
  7. Finally! Soon enough that I can remember better details. Went to Harlot for the first ever “Rumble” party. Went with Justin and met up with his friend Ha. Drank 5 FREE vodka red bulls ($2 tip), had a Pilsner Urquell bought for me by Ha, later repaid the effort with a drink for her and another Pilsner for me ($12 + $2 tip). (7 drinks - $16).

On with the party!
